The front entrance to our house needed something....
For once my idea was just put tiles no mosaic just straight plain and simple tiles.
Family polled a simple compass rose was decided.
Ok.... even though a rug will cover the design I love the idea of symbols.

We will always know it is there, guiding my family home.

Travertine Bits and pieces.

Some straight forward plain and simple tile.
Next project waiting in background, the plan is to add a bit of detail to phase 2 coming this fall.

This Beach crockery Vase comes with lights !!
Lights made from????
I Found these LED twig lights to compliment my vase, or so I thought.
The intensity of the lights was a bit much, mulling it over with my friend Kerry her solution....dried apricots over the bulbs.
ahhh...... thanks Kerry.
.
Apricot lights are a bit of a theme at my house this year.

One of my favorite beaches for treasure hunting, today calm and quiet, after the big storm the night before.
The best time for treasure hunting is after a storm. What will mother nature churn up???

This bit of old crockery perhaps will become a fin for a fish??

The beach crockery used for this fish fin came to me as a gift from a friend.
After few hours collecting on the beach off to the thrift stores........
Remember these beauties I think my Grandmother had a few choices pieces.
As I was pondering...........to buy or not to buy more flowers I overheard the conversation with another customer, on the great care and special attention she gives to cleaning and dusting her collection. I found that today I could not purchase a piece, and certainly I could not divulge my intention of breaking them.

Soap dispensers, made from found beach glass.

Sea glass vase or votive, hundreads of pieces of sea glass.
From my Sea glass collection.

I have been a sea glass collector for many years, these ocean gems have held my curiosity and motivated my creativity. Tumbled and molded into smooth pieces of glass these treasures have had a long journey to wash ashore. These days with plastic and thinner glass sea glass is getting harder to find. To find the rare cobalts blues and even rarer reds a good day hunting. Somes have dates, dating back to the 1930's or the rare bottle stoppers (57) probably heinz, small bottles and even a few glass beads have made their way to my collection.
The Stinking Fish Studio Tour happens twice a year. This fall I will be participating as a guest Artist. For this fall five East Sooke Artist's have come together to present their work at the Fire hall in East Sooke 1397 Coppermine Road . Look for maps and brochures around town or you can visit the web site www.stinkingfishstudiotour.com to download your own.
